Lucy Hale, the former star of Pretty Little Liars, is set to star in a new romantic drama titled 'A Young Widow's Guide to Life'. Directed by the up-and-coming Mackenzie Munro, this film is set to be a poignant exploration of grief, self-discovery, and the journey towards healing. The story centers around Tess Fuller, a 30-year-old widow who has been emotionally stuck in the past for five years following the death of her husband. On the fifth anniversary of his passing, a childhood friend of Luke's publishes a letter he left behind, asking the town to help Tess create a list of things to try and start over with her life.
The plot synopsis reads: "Reluctantly, Tess starts checking items off the list and slowly reconnects with life, love, and herself. As she develops a connection with a charming single father and professor named Marcus, Tess must decide whether she is ready to open her heart again — or if she still needs time to find herself first. After an emotional turning point, she embarks on a solo road trip that ultimately helps her let go of the past and embrace a new chapter."
This project marks another commercial movie role for Hale, who has been steadily building her career in film and television. Her recent film, 'F*** Marry Kill', topped Hulu in 2025, and she is best known for her roles in 'Pretty Little Liars', 'Truth or Dare', and 'The Hating Game'.
Director Mackenzie Munro, who began her career in film production as a teenager, is making her feature debut with 'Salvation'. She has since directed projects for Facebook Watch, Crypt TV, and The Shade Room, and recently wrapped production on 'Stampede' and 'Chasing Red'.
The film is produced by Pascal Borno, Alain Gillissen, Silvio Muraglia, and Jack Greenbaum, with international sales launching in Cannes. A deal has been secured with Andreas Klein's German powerhouse, Splendid Films, for German-speaking territories. Producers Borno and Gillissen expressed their excitement about bringing the film to Cannes and introducing it to key buyers, highlighting the unique combination of established star Lucy Hale and rising director Mackenzie Munro.
