TxDOT Road Closures: May 24 - June 2, 2023 (2026)

The upcoming road closures in El Paso, Texas, are a necessary but disruptive endeavor, and I, as a resident, have some thoughts on the matter. The TxDOT map and cameras provide a helpful resource for drivers, but the extensive closures are a cause for concern. The I-10 widening project, in particular, will significantly impact traffic flow, and the phase-by-phase closures are a strategic approach. However, the Artcraft Project and the Borderland Expressway Phase 2 Project are more problematic. The emergency closure of the I-10 westbound on-ramp before Artcraft and the ongoing closures of SH-178 between New Mexico State Line and Doniphan are unnecessary and disruptive. The Borderland Expressway Phase 2 Project, with its daily lane closures, will further congest the roads. The Bridge Replacement at Alps Dr., Hollings St., and Concepcion St. project is a necessary undertaking, but the continuous closure is a significant inconvenience. The Tech Project on Bridge of the Americas and Zaragoza Port of Entry is a welcome improvement, but the timing is unfortunate. The Loop-375 Rehabilitation Project and Districtwide Striping Project are essential for road safety, but the timing is not ideal. The BU-54A Safety Improvements and Road Repair projects are necessary, but the timing is problematic. The Guardrail Repair and Pavement Repairs projects are essential, but the timing is unfortunate. The Concrete Repairs and Maintenance projects are necessary, but the timing is not ideal. The Horizon/Darrington Reconstruction Project is a welcome improvement, but the timing is unfortunate. The Bridge Maintenance Project and Safety Lighting Project are essential, but the timing is problematic. The Sergeant Major Bridge Reconstruction Project and FM 258 Safety Improvements Project are necessary, but the timing is not ideal. The Montana Widening Project and Purple Heart 375 Widening Project are essential, but the continuous closures are a significant inconvenience. The I-10 Hudspeth Safety Rest Area and RM 652 Full Widening Project are necessary, but the continuous closures are a problem. In my opinion, the road closures are a necessary evil, but the timing and coordination could be better. The TxDOT should consider the impact on residents and businesses and work to minimize the disruption. The road closures are a necessary undertaking, but the timing and coordination could be improved.
